Karnei Shomron Shabbat Project

It goes without saying that this year's The Project Shabbat was most challenging in light of the corona pandemic. As soon as the flower bouquets were introduced in the video clip watched by our many worldwide partners I asked myself which segment of the population would most benefit from this lovely gesture and at the same time afford us the opportunity to tie it in with Shabbat ? The answer became apparent . The lonely/elderly segment would be most worthy of being the recipients and our team decided to include in the project shabbat packages

potato & yerushalmi kugels , a bottle of grape juice for kiddush, a sweetie, a leaflet on project shabbat, and booklets on abc's of shabbat observance provided by Bat Sheva, our wonderful national coordinator. The next step was to decide who would have the privilege of delivering the Project Shabbat packages. And so we recruited our wonderful youth from the various youth movements; Bnei Akiva, Tzofim ( the Scouts) as well as Beitar to fulfill the special mitzvah of bringing joy to the elderly and lonely. As in previous years we never forget our dear soldiers who are entrusted to oversee our security and welfare. In previous years many of our soldiers attended our communal tefilot/ dinners/kiddushim .This year we showered them with lots of sweets, goodies , pastries, as well as the special kugels. We are most grateful to the Beitar youth movement who conducted a most successful fundraising campaign, the Karnei Shomron Religious Council and private donors who made all of this possible.

I can say in all honesty that there is no greater sense of achievement in this world than to bring joy and happiness to those who are less fortunate than us as well as to our soldiers on whom we depend so greatly.

We hope and pray that next year we will be able to partake in a more conventional Project Shabbat event. Amen
